For this project I got inspired by a sculptor Anu Põder whom combined, reused and played with surrounding everyday objects in her sculptures and installations.
This pair of sandals was made out of an old cowhide, where I grew up watching telenovelas and dancing to Cyndi Lauper with my mom.
I remember the day when this cowhide was bought until the day it moved to the attic. It stayed there up to ten years until i finally found a purpose for it.
I decided to reuse discarded materials as plywood and a cowhide to create shoes that embodied the qualities of everyday sandals and dancing shoes.
Bio Jürgen Sinnep is an emerging Estonian footwear designer, whose work combines the clash between of northern highland landscape and architectural purity. His work is driven by provocation and the breaking down of pre-established boundaries, in place of which he creates his own inner world. In addition to leatherwork and sculptural forms, the designer draws inspiration from ethnic handicrafts, which he seeks to incorporate into his work.
Inspired by the stones inside the sneaker and the roots under the shoe, the designer finds in his designs a dialogue between leather and wood, stones and metal.
