Closed Loop Footwear is a modular sneaker designed for the circular economy. It combines self assembly, repair, and disassembly to extend product lifecycles and achieve maximum recyclability. The shoe is designed for decentralized manufacturing in small workshops using 3d printing and lasercutting. This allows for on-demand production and minimizes overproduction which further reduces waste. The concept utilizes innovative materials with excellent recycling and composting characteristics like banana fiber textile, hemp leather (both compostable and recyclable) and TPU (recyclable).

Bio
Dominik Scherrer is an interdisciplinary industrial designer with a foundation in mechanical engineering, a combination that equips him with a deep understanding of functionality, materials, and production techniques. His passion for drawing and his drive for creative expression eventually led him toward industrial design at the age of 27. After completing a Master’s degree in Eco-Innovative Industrial Design at FH Joanneum in Graz, he founded his own studio, Dominik Scherrer Design. His work centers on creating physical expressions of quality, precision, and sustainability.
